Goose Chase Supersonic for Burnley Road Academy!

We have awarded a £600 grant to Burnley Road Academy in Mytholmroyd to fund the purchase of an innovative acoustic deterrent system to humanely manage the persistent problem of Canada Geese on the school field.

While wildlife is typically welcome in outdoor spaces, the geese leave behind significant amounts of faecal matter that poses serious health hazards to children and other field users. These droppings can contain harmful parasites and bacteria including cryptosporidium, giardia, coliforms, and campylobacter, all of which can cause illness in humans, particularly children who may come into direct contact with contaminated surfaces during play.

The academy's field is not only used by students during school hours but also by various youth sports groups throughout the year. Maintaining the safety and usability of this space is therefore crucial for both educational and recreational purposes in Mytholmroyd.

The school's administration, acting on recommendations from the Local Authority Health and Safety team, identified the Goose Chase Supersonic system as an effective and humane solution to this problem. It will discourage geese from settling on the field without causing harm to the birds or other wildlife.

Congratulations to Head Teacher, Jo, for identifying the risk and taking measures to ensure a healthier environments for our community's children and families.
